“The love of family and the admiration of friends is much more important than wealth and privilege.”
Today was the first birthday of my handsome little Godson Noah, and I joined some of his family, with the wife, for a birthday meal. When I look back on the day, I think to myself what a privilege it is to be called a Godparent, and so hence the quote. The food was good, ribs was a good choice, washed down with a Jack and Coke (its great having a pregnant wife who can drive!) and then off to see another birthday boy, my old school friend Andrew. What a lovely way to spend an evening!
“Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth.”
Really struggled for inspiration, seems to be a Wednesday thing as I spend a lot of my evening at a friends house. Was caught by the moon on the way home and the way it was hiding behind a faint cloud. When I finally got home this image then took a step further and moved behind a tree. I knew i’d found my image.
“Most of what we call management consists of making it difficult for people to get their work done.”
I wanted to get more black and white shots done and wanted to include a couple of self shots in my 365, this one combines both and kind of reflects my mood a bit at the moment. Tired and having had better days at work, it’s fair to say i’m looking forward to my bed tonight!
“Age does not protect you from love. But love, to some extent, protects you from age.”
I pass this house every day on the way to and from work. Its not easy to stop on a busy main road, but I was desperate to get a shot of it. Today I managed to grab a few shots and have a play with some editing to give it that really old feel. It is one of several derelict old hotels on the Hagley Road waiting to be pulled down, although I feel if they wait much longer, they won’t need to do much pulling!
“Modern man is frantically trying to earn enough to buy things he’s too busy to enjoy.”
After a 10k run this morning, I took my aching legs to Merry Hill, a local shopping mall, with the wife to buy a few bits for the baby. I saw the escalators and felt inspired by the whole movement thing. I had to be subtle as people may get freaked out by a stranger pointing a camera. Seeing as all shopping malls are technically private property, security could easily have wanted to have words with me!
“If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits 88mph, you’re gonna see some serious shit!”
Didn’t have many chances to get a good photo today, but was inspired with a long exposure idea I had, where I simply rested my camera on the car dashboard whilst driving. The light was fading so it was a perfect opportunity to capture the car lights which enhanced the suggestion of movement!
“You didn’t have a choice about the parents you inherited, but you do have a choice about the kind of parent you will be.”
Today I was lucky enough to meet up with a couple again whose wedding I photographed last year. Now they are expecting and I was honoured to have been asked to do a maternity shoot for them. I think this is one of my favourite images of the day. They are a great couple, the kind that make photographing people easy, I wish them a lot of luck in six weeks when bump is due to make an appearance!
“Tomorrow hopes we have learned something from yesterday.”
After watching the latest Die Hard film at the cinema and grabbing a pub lunch, a very cold 2ºc walk this afternoon led me down a path to this graffiti covered underpass. I was looking for somewhere colourful like this to capture and the couple who had stopped at the other end just added to it.
“You may have a fresh start any moment you choose, for this thing that we call “failure” is not the falling down, but the staying down.”
Today we move forward in the knowledge that a house and mortgage is secured, our baby is on the way and this is going to be my biggest year ever! The ultimate of fresh starts and new chapters. Life is, quite literally, never going to be the same! Now to begin the preparations, getting the flat ready for selling! This was the shot that I wanted to get yesterday but ran out of daylight hours.
